Defective Sprint Fidelis Lead causes other problems

April 9th, 2008 · No Comments

Medtronic faces yet another lawsuit regarding their defective defibrillators and pacemakers. Donald Shewmake claims to have suffered physical and financial damages due to the use of a Medtronic product. According to the lawsuit, Shewmake states that his heart condition prompted him to have the Medtronic defibrillator implanted. Defibrillators work to maintain a steady heart rhythm in patients who experience irregular rhythms. The defibrillator works by sending electrical shocks to the appropriate places in the heart in order to keep the rhythm on track and prevent cardiac arrest.

Shewmake had no problems with the defibrillator until he began to recieve random and painful shocks from the defective defibrillator lead, causing him to suffer a myocardial infarction. After reporting his condition to doctors, he had the lead removed and replaced, however, this was not the end of his problems. Not longer after, he returned to the hospital to have the battery replaced due to the damage that it sustained from the defective lead.

Shewmake claims to continue to suffer from the effects of the defective lead. He states that Medtronic failed to provide a safe product and failed to properly warn patients of possible defects.
