Medtronic Defibrillator Lawsuit

April 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

Belinda Klein had a Medtronic defibrillator implanted to help her regulate the rhythm of her heart, however, the shocks that she recieved were much more painful than she bargined for. In a federal lawsuit, Klein claims that severe shocks from her implanted defibrillator were so painful that she had to be hospitalized and treated.

Klein’s lawsuit claims that the manufacturer, Medtronic, was aware of the defects of their product, but failed to remove the product from the market until October 2007. Klein’s defibrillator was implanted in February 2005 and began to deliver inappropriate and painful shocks in March 2006.

The lawsuit suggests that Medtronic officials were aware of the defect as soon as early 2006, but failed to remove the product from the market until the following year. A spokesperson for Medtronic defends the company, stating that 268,000 wires had been implanted in patients and only 2.3 percent of the patients experienced problems.

While Medtronic would like everyone to believe that they took the appropriate actions as soon as evidence showed the product was dangerous, the evidence and death of Medtronic patients suggests otherwise.
