Medtronic Brain Pacemaker in Development

May 30th, 2008 · No Comments

Medtronic, the manufacturer of hundreds of defective defibrillators, is now focusing on the creation of a brain pacemaker that would be used to treat depression. Just like a heart pacemaker or defibrillator, the device would be implanted in the chest. According to early tests, the brain pacemaker would be used to treat depression and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

This kind of treatment has worked successfully in the treatment of the tremors associated with Parkinson’s disease, so doctors are optimistic that the electrical stimulation with work for other brain disorders.

The device would provide small shocks to the brain to ward away any obsessive thoughts or other disturbing thoughts. The brain pacemaker is still in development, however, some may be wary of using a pacemaker created by the same manufacturer that has a history of producing defective defibrillators.

Only time will tell if Medtronic’s brain pacemaker will be a success.
