Through this new device, almost 40% of the participants were able to reduce the number of headaches they experienced by nearly 50%.  These results, which were presented at the annual American Headache Society meeting, are quite remarkable.

Medical device giant Medtronic Inc. announced recently that it had received approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market a wire lead which will work with an implantable cardiac resynchronization device to correct irregular heart rhythms.

Medtronic, the manufacturer of hundreds of defective defibrillators, is now focusing on the creation of a brain pacemaker that would be used to treat depression. Just like a heart pacemaker or defibrillator, the device would be implanted in the chest. A new kind of implantable defibrillator may be susceptable to computer hacking. The new device transmits information via a computer system daily, making the system vulnerable to hacking. Hackers may gain access to patient information and, even worse, could be able to reprogram the defibrillator.

These defibrillator transmissions are not encrypted, which means that private patient information could be at risk of being hacked. This information may include a patient’s birth date, social security number, and medical ID.
